The main inspiration behind the D M Residence was to create a warm and inviting atmosphere while maintaining a sophisticated aesthetic. The use of natural regional white marble adds a touch of luxury, while the clean lines and hidden cabinets behind slatted panels ensure a clutter-free environment.
One of the standout features of this design is the integration of the living room, dining room, and kitchen. By hiding all the cabinets inside the slatted panels, the space achieves a clean visual style while maximizing storage. This decision also allowed the kitchen to be designed as a stylish bar, free from excessive furniture.
The realization of the D M Residence involved building from scratch using light steel structures as an expansion to an existing apartment. The designer opted for national Brazilian brands and materials, including furniture, carpet, tiling, cabinets, and marble, to showcase the country's craftsmanship and design expertise.
Spanning 110 square meters, this open-concept architecture is designed to make daily routines easy and comfortable. The absence of pillars in the space was a creative solution to work with a limited structural context, ensuring a seamless flow throughout the integrated area.
One of the main challenges faced during the project was the lightweight structure and limited points of support. Careful calculations were made to ensure that the materials used did not overload the structure. Additionally, the design team had to conceive the slatted cabinets in a way that they seamlessly blend into the overall panel design, from floor to ceiling.
The D M Residence is a testament to the designer's ability to create a harmonious balance between functionality and aesthetics. The loose furniture in the living and dining areas adds a relaxed touch, while the slatted panels provide a clean contemporary background for the space. The kitchen, with its hidden cabinets, feels more like a stylish bar, inviting friends and family to gather and enjoy life's best moments.
The D M Residence was completed between September and December 2018, following an initial project start in January 2018. The design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award celebrates designs that showcase technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
